Code Yellow
Code Yellow is a state of preparation at Oak Ridge High School. Code Yellow happens when law enforcement notifies the school of the possibility that a dangerous situation could make its way to the campus. Such examples of this could be a high speed chase that could come past the school, an armed suspect who has been confined to an area close to the school, etc. However, during a Code Yellow, law enforcement has determined that there is no current threat to the school and that the students are perfectly safe and can continue to learn. There is only a slim potential for a threat to make its way to the school.
In a Code Yellow teachers are advised via the PA system that the Code Yellow has begun. This means that the teachers continue to teach but are starting to gather their class and prepare them for a possible lockdown. The teachers will review the lockdown procedures with their students and will not allow students to leave the room for any reason until the Code Yellow has been rescinded. They will then continue with their lesson. Our campus security would start to gather up students outside of class and move them back to their appropriate classes.
If law enforcement were to move our Code Yellow to a Code Red (Lockdown) we would then be prepared and all of our students would be in the safest place possible.
The School does not communicate with the parents during a Code Yellow because it is simply a precaution and will likely not evolve into a real threat.
